This item is a representative of a newly identified rickettsial species (Rickettsia raoultii), a gram-negative, obligately intracellular and non-motile bacterium. It is genetically identical to the type strain for this species (Khabarovsk, isolated in 2005) at all loci sequenced. The preparation available through ATCC tested positive for mycoplasma contamination (M.orale) by PCR.
