Petite phenotype
Fol1-6 confers auxotrophy for folinic acid (approx. 50 mg/ml added to solid cooled media); folinic acid auxotrophy is slightly leaky on YEPD but very stringent on Met- Ade- or His- media. In a petite background, the auxotrophy can be satisfied by adenine, methionine, histidine and thymidine monophosphate, but only in strains that are permeable to thymidine monophosphate.
